Todd Newman, LISW

Todd began his college career in 2001, where he began taking courses toward an Associate of Science degree in Human Services with an Addiction Services focus, graduating in 2005 with High Distinction. He immediately enrolled and completed his Bachelor of Social Work degree (micro focus/Magna Cum Laude) in 2007. He was then immediately selected for the University of Akron and Cleveland State University’s “Fast Track/combined” Master’s in Social Work program graduating then in 2008. Todd completed a total of three internships in community mental health and in a developmental disability multidisciplinary treatment clinic. In addition to these said academic accomplishments, he was accepted and completed coursework at the Doctoral academic level at Regent University (2017-2018).

His preferred methodology and training are extended but not limited to Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (basic skills certified), High-Yield Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (obtained from Neomed in 2012), Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused, Analytical, Expressive and Depth therapies. He treats clients with a plethora of clinical presentations with particular attention to mood disorders, including bipolar disorder, adjustment disorders, ADHD, developmental disorders and substance use disorder. He is also highly trained to diagnose and treat psychotic disorders, as well. The age range of clientele that is within his scope of practice to treat is 12-65.

In his spare time, Todd prefers to remain active and indulges in such activities as exercise, hiking and weight training. He resides in West Akron with his wife, daughter, dog Sadie and four cats. He is also a trained musician and continues to practice on a regular basis to express himself musically. Todd continues to grow personally/professionally. For example, he is taking professional development courses to obtain his professional substance abuse license and remains cognizant of cutting-edge/current issues in psychotherapy that can inform and improve his level of expertise and competence in practice.
