AMY BENZA, PH.D

Dr. Thatcher-Benza earned her Ph.D and MA in clinical Psychology from the University of South Florida and received her BA in psychology from the University of Cincinnati. She completed her internship at Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Through her dissertation research, Dr. Thatcher-Benza examined the effect of parental personality and family environment on the ability of families to manage the home treatment program prescribed for children diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis. Dr. Thatcher-Benza provides psychological evaluations and psychotherapy to children, adolescents, and parents. She specializes in treatment of the very young child with behavioral problems, with chronic illness and medical conditions. Dr. Thatcher-Benza has provided parent education in management of children with behavior problems including ADHD. She has conducted social skills and peer groups for elementary and middle school youths in both the school and clinic environments. In addition, Dr. Thatcher-Benza has taught undergraduate courses in Child Development at the University of South Florida.
